A Day at the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament
There’s nothing quite like spending a sunny day outdoors, enjoying a fun sports event. Recently, I spent a day at the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Here is my experience and some tips for attending golf events.
Thanks to my wonderful daughter-in-law, who managed to snag some free tickets, we experienced a fun day in the world of professional golf. The tournament was held just up the road from me, making it a convenient and delightful outing.

When is Golf Season?
Golf season typically runs from spring through fall, with the most exciting tournaments happening between April and September. During this time, the weather is usually pleasant, making it perfect for spending the day outdoors.
However, it’s always a good idea to check the local forecast and be prepared for any sudden changes, as I found out during the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament when it rained earlier that morning.
What to Wear to a Golf Event
Dressing appropriately for a golf event is key to enjoying the day. For the Byron Nelson, I opted for a casual yet stylish outfit. Cool, breathable clothing is essential, so I wore a light white flowy cotton blouse and a pair of black crop pants.
Comfortable shoes are a must, as you’ll likely be doing a lot of walking. I chose a pair of supportive sneakers that kept my feet happy all day.
My Lululemon belt bag was perfect for carrying essentials like my phone, keys, debit card, and a small bottle of sunscreen.
Don’t forget a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun and a good quality sunscreen to keep your skin safe.
Outdoor Event Essentials
- Lululemon Belt Bag: Handy for keeping all your small essentials secure and easily accessible.
- Comfortable Shoes: A pair of good walking shoes will save your feet from a long day of walking.
- Cool Clothing: Lightweight and breathable fabrics are your best bet for staying cool and comfortable.
- Hat and Sunglasses: Protect yourself from the sun’s rays with a wide-brimmed hat and high-SPF sunscreen.
The Excitement of the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament
The Byron Nelson Golf Tournament is part of the prestigious PGA Tour, attracting some of the best golfers from around the world. When I was in my early twenties, I attended this tournament at it’s original location in Las Colinas, TX.
This year, it was at the TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, TX and the competition was fierce, but in the end, it was Taylor Pendrith from Canada who took home the $1.7 million dollar purse.
This was the official final leaderboard from this PGA Golf Tournament.
Watching these top-tier athletes up close was truly inspiring. The skill and precision they demonstrated were nothing short of remarkable.
In fact, we had fun watching Adam Scott at the 18th hole close up and that was double the fun becuase it got us on tv.
My Unique Adventure
One of the more memorable moments of the day was my little adventure with the restrooms. The rain earlier in the morning had left the grounds a bit soggy, and the thought of using a portable potty was less than appealing.
Fortunately, after a polite request and a bit of charm, I was granted access to use the official players’ trailer facilities. It was quite the upgrade, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at my good fortune.
My family thought I was crazy–they may be right; but more likely, I’m crazy like a fox. LOL
